Much earlier than before thanks to long-held plans to release F1 2015 during the real-world Formula One season, Codemasters has published a wheel and controller compatibility list.
Until recently, screenshots and a trailer or two have been the limit of ‘2015’ material available – so with a mere ten days remaining until F1’s arrival next month, we’re glad to have finally seen the post-E3 appearance of directly recorded footage as well as finding that Codemasters itself has approached the important matter of F1 2015 wheel compatibility. Given what should have been avoidable frustrations with wheels for this generation’s consoles and the compatibility that has varied with each racing game, we’re more appreciative than usual of this clarity. We just want to know what works… or doesn’t!
That said, we do need to highlight that the just-announced G920 Driving Force Racing Wheel (PC/Xbox One) and Logitech Driving Force Shifter (PS4 and Xbox One) aren’t yet included in any of the lists below. The G920 perhaps isn’t too surprising as unlike the expected July release of the G29 Driving Force Racing Wheel (PC/PS3/PS4), it’s only had an indeterminate ‘later this year’. Could we be targeting September or October to line up with Forza Motorsport 6, perhaps…?! Whatever the timing and even if it follows with a game update, it’s hard to imagine that the G920 won’t ultimately work with F1 2015. We’ll keep that in mind and update the tables once we have that hoped-for confirmation.
Here we go then. Consoles first, followed by the PC.
PlayStation 4
The PS4 version of F1 2015 launches with a substantial list of controllers that have been certified as ‘compatible’. Negating earlier statements and blame-shifting regarding wheel compatibility with this console generation, it’s pleasing to see the new F1 game join Project CARS in being able to run on Fanatec wheels that have long been discontinued and yet remain functional. Despite the new product launch with the G29 and G920, we’d now like to see the same happen for Logitech wheels on the consoles!

Xbox One
Unless you are able to combine one of Fanatec’s ClubSport base units, its Xbox One-specific Universal Hub and a rim, the confirmed choices are altogether slimmer on the One – namely Microsoft-authorised wheels from HORI, Mad Catz and Thrustmaster. The situation could be better. Much better.

Windows PC
Limitations thankfully drop with the PC and building on its more open nature, F1 2015 has been tested for compatibility with Fanaleds software and D-BOX motion systems. Obviously, wheels aren’t the only control option either! F1 will also work with keyboard, Xbox 360 Pad or the Xbox One Controller.
As for the new Logitech G29 and G920 wheels not being included in the PC list, it should be a small matter of a driver update. There are already references to Logitech Gaming Software on the company’s product and support pages, so full functionality won’t be far away.
