With only a few days until the Season 3 update arrives for 2022, iRacing preview Port Royal Speedway in a new video. It’s one of two new circuits definitely coming in the next release, along with the Sandown Raceway road course (and possibly Fuji).
Unlike the Australian and Japanese tracks, this is very much an American half-mile dirt oval, which originally opened in 1938. After a pause during World War 2, it re-opened in 1946, with the clay surface hosting a vareity of series, including the World of Outlaws Late Model Series, and is nicknamed ‘The Speed Palace’. It follows the release of Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55 for Season 2.
And you can expect even more dirt oval content in the future, following the acqusition of Monster Games and the announcement of a World of Outlaws console game due for this Autumn. As we’ve seen elsewhere, if you can use licenses and assets across multiple titles, then it makes sense to do it.
Which is probably the reason iRacing announced three dirt circuits were planned for release this year, with the last of the trio being Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, presumably coming for Season 4. And both the oval and off-road tracks at the Missouri venue will be included.
We’ll have the full release notes when they’re available with the iRacing 2022 Season 3 update, which is scheduled to be available from 12:00 UTC on June 7th.
