From solo developer Alex Taber as Unordered Games, and combining sim racing and slot car racing, Throttle Trace is now available on Steam Early Access.
Like slot car racing (or Scalextric for us in the UK who use the brand name as the generic term), you can only accelerate or brake. Which sounds simplistic unless you’ve been knelt on the floor trying to clinch a last lap victory against your family. Or when Throttle Trace actually has serious sim racing physics determining what happens to your car, including tyre wear, heat, fuel load, dirty air and car balance.
And unless with real slot cars, you can’t get an advantage by utilising Blu-Tack for hidden weight balancing, or rely on the family pet wandering across your circuit at the right moment.

It’s an interesting idea, and one that’s instantly more accessible for casual gamers who might be enticed into sim racing as a result. And for more depth you can play though a dynamic career mode against AI opponents with individual personalities and behaviours, multiplayer, and compete on the Time Trial leaderboards.
A development roadmap has been shared with includes co-op careers (both local and online), split-screen multiplayer and even custom online league support. Features including rivalries, sponsors, team development, race engineer mode and more are also planned, along with Steam Workshop support for custom mods.

It’ll definitely appeal to those who like a different take to the standard racing games and sims. There have been a lot of slot-car based titles in the past, but most tend to replicate the tracks you’d have on your living room floor. And they don’t tend to try and also add depth in both realism and what you can do in the game. The fact it’s published by MicroProse supports the focus on depth, given their simulation history.
Throttle Trace is available for the PC via Steam Early Access for £11.75, with a 10% discount running until September 29th, 2026.
