MX vs ATV: Alive was the fourth title in the series, and the last to be published by THQ before the publisher, developer and series were all acquired by Nordic Games. It was developed by Rainbow Studios under the name THQ Digital Phoenix.
Originally released in May 2011, the game was a stripped down affair – the idea being that it would be sold for less at retail, and would focus more on paid downloadable content.
Two fictional motorcycle brands, Blaze and Takahashi were used for the 125, 250 and 450cc motocross bikes, and the 250 and 450cc ATV machines. However, a number of real MX stars allowed their race outfits to appear in the game. Multiple champion James Stewart stars with a number of cut scenes, plus an achievement for beating him in-game, and a further reward for winning a race using his helmet and outfit.
