Now working through Steam rather than the earlier isolated launcher, the rapid pace of development continues with Project CARS and sees a revision released ahead of the weekend for Junior Members and above. Daily builds continue to go out for Team Members upwards, as production staff concentrate concentrate on the physics of set groups of cars.
A new set of car and track testing combinations have come into effect. This is Week 8 of the Car Physics Focus Testing (CPFT) and it will run with the cars and tracks listed below until next Friday, the 13th of September.
- BMW Z4 GT3 at Wisconsin
- Caterham R500 at Heusden
- Formula C at Florence Short
Highlighting the involvement of the pCARS community and the work that constantly goes on in all parts of the software, a selection of more notable updates from today’s and recent builds looks like this…
Build 557 (6/9/13, Junior Member+)
Render:
Add Oculus Rift bits to sample projects so renderer builds.
Steam-based multi-player WIP:
Host migration improvements/fixes
Steam-based multi-player can now be enabled on the command line, option -steammp
P2P networking fixes
Fixed several session join issues
Fixed warnings
Peer-to-peer networking
Tracks:
Connecticut Hill: Adding high-res backdrop texture with latest imagery from Google, fixed various uv stretching, re-textured concrete stripes, kerbs, fixed floating assets and other discrepancies between in-game and real life.
Vehicles:
BMW M3 E30: Minor update on Wiper Cpit/LODA/B/X meshes. Wiper animation and mask done Updated Windscreen and windows materials. Windscreen banner added.
BMW Z4 GT3: new sway bars and dampers for the CPFT test. Updates to GT3 slick and Group A tyres.
Caterham R500, Ariel Atom 3: Heating tweaks to the carcass and tread to balance between these two cars – basically, reduced carcass heating and increased tread heating. Some set-up changes to adapt for slight balance changes once the tyres warm up.
Builds 555 and 556
Vehicles:
BAC Mono: New collision shapes with multi-part main chassis for better representation of the car’s shape.
BMW M3 E30 Group A: Added rim/interior colour variations.
Formula Gulf FG1000: Fixed CPIT steering wheel LCD mapping.
Caterham Classic, Caterham R500: New tyres bringing them up to the current thinking on grip mixes. Heating enabled and new CTC (tread-to-road collision detection) added.
Lotus 98T: Dropped tack grip. Added some of the new CTC to the tread model. Better inflation shape numbers to fit the fully-heated tyre pressures. Added some rear sway bar to default set-up to remove understeer.
Formula Gulf FG1000: Cockpit texturing complete (bug on the steering wheel display).
Build 554
Common:
Clear optimisations enabled on PC – SLI still clears colour as well as depth (RVM/Envmaps and Phase1).
Deferred Rendering Helper – add separate toggle for shadow update. This allows the lit particles to use shadow but not repeat the phase2 full screen – saves about 5% GPU time.
Build 553
Audio:
Ariel V8 has independent in-car and external engine sets (based on the same Hayabusa engine in the V8-RS), plus an AI version. Update also includes the latest sound events such as int/ext gear shifts, wobbles backfires/splutters and distant roll-offs and my latest trajectory values. Also added this new trajectory to the Racer V8-RS. The BMW M1 AI are quieter from the M1 cockpit (as requested) but the same amplitude from track-side. The Ariel V8 and Racer V8-RS have a better limiter sound and onset.
Build 546
Audio:
A new Racer V8-RS in-car and external engine sets, plus an AI version. The in-car is from the same source as the old one but has a wider array, greater details and is more dynamic. The external engine set is from track-side recordings (very happy with the results). Update also includes the latest sound events such as int/ext gear shifts, backfires/splutters and distance-based effects. The trajectory and roll-offs are copied from the Capri and are working very well!
As a footnote to our update for Project CARS participants, remember to delete at least the profile file located in Documents/CARS before running a new build for the first time!
Now expected to arrive in 2014, Project CARS is currently set for release on Nintendo’s Wii U, Sony’s PlayStation 3, Microsoft’s Xbox 360 and of course, the PC.
