RaceRoom Racing Experience R3E Video Review

February 10, 2017 By Dan Thornton Leave a Comment

RaceRoom Racing Experience, commonly known as R3E, is a free-to-play race simulator. But can it compare to paid games?

Well it’s developed by Sector3 Studios, previously known as SimBin. And they’ve been producing racing games since 2005, including the GTR and GT Legends series, and underated Xbox 360 game Race Pro. They actually started by producing mods for the Image Space Incorporated game F1 2002. The isiMoto2 game engine was actually used for RaceRoom, although the remaining ISI code is apparently less than 20%.

RaceRoom uses a proprietary RendR graphics engine, which simulates different types of day and rain, and a custom aduio engine which is widely regarded as one of the best for PC motorsport sims. That’s used on 65+ officially licensed cars, and 20+ tracks, with a range of paid expansions to add to the free content. Telemetry data is supplied by partners including DTM, WTCC and the ADAC GT Masters, with feedback from professional racers including Bruno Spengler, Daniel Juncadella and Kelvin van der Linde.

So you get the choice of everything from supercars and open wheel racers to FIA WTCC, classic touring cars and historic FIA Group 5 cars at tracks including Paul Ricard in France, Sonoma in America or Suzuka in Japan.

But what does our PC league racer Daniel Faas make of it in comparison to the other games he competes on? Find out in our RaceRoom Racing Experience R3E Video Review as he demonstrates the 2015 WTCC cars from the game.

Let us know what you think of RaceRoom Racing Experience. Has it become your ‘go to’ racing simulator of choice, or a nice addition to your collection? Any favourite car or track in the game you’d recommend?
And if you like this video review and want to see more, make sure to also check out Daniel’s review for the Automobilista CART Extreme mod.

If you want to download and try RaceRoom Racing Experience, you can download it from Steam.
