New KartKraft Update Adds TrackIR Support

May 18, 2021 By Dan Thornton Leave a Comment

Kart racing can be pretty frantic, and the sim version is no different. So it’ll be helpful that the new KartKraft update adds TrackIR support if you want to use it to improve your all-around vision and awareness. The TrackIR system uses optical motion tracking to follow your head movements, helping your in-game racer to look to the sides quickly without needing to use buttons or joystick controls.

And the ratio of head movement can be adjusted so your sim racing driver can look 180 degrees without needing you to turn away from your computer monitor. Which can be a big help if you’re in a close battle with other karts, or want to be able to look towards the apex of the corner as a real racing driver would – even if your car isn’t pointing exactly in that direction.

The latest update from Motorsport Games Australia (formerly Black Delta), adds TrackIR to the existing VR support, and also updates the Unreal Engine used for the game to 4.25. Plus it fixes a bug which stopped you from binding brakes to a gamepad, which would be a bit of an issue for slowing your kart.

KartKraft v0.1.0.3096 Change Notes:

  • Updated Engine to 4.25
  • Added support for head tracking using TrackIR
  • Fixed a bug which prevented the ability to bind brake input to gamepad

In other news, KartKraft is nearing the release of the Karting Genk circuit, and Motorsport Games Australia have also been advertising for new programmers and artists to join the company. So it seems like momentum is continuing on the game, which arrived onto Steam Early Access back in November 2018.

KartKraft is available for the PC via Steam, here. And keep up with all the latest KartKraft news, updates and eSports here.
