Prepare to argue over the accuracy of the numbers with the F1 Manager 2022 Driver Ratings revealed for when the title will launch on August 30th, 2022. Along with staff and reserves, each individual has been assessed with nine performance ratings based on real world data.
Including the 2022 season so far, the starting performance ratings are split into three sections, with each containing a trio of attributes.
- Pace: Cornering, Braking and Reactions
- Consistency: Accuracy, Control and Smoothness
- Racecraft: Adaptability, Overtaking and Defending.
But drivers also get an Aggression value to show how likely they will be overtake when it’s risky, and their Growth Potential for how they may develop in the future. And key staff members also have their own performance ratings, which are unique to each role, and evolve as their experience levels increase. Team Principals can take direct control by allocating development points to each score over time, although drivers and staff will each develop and improve at varying speeds.
And as with real F1, the facilities and headquarters of a team will also influence how quickly experience is built and impacts the morale of everyone involved.
Ahead of the game launching, Frontier Developments have released the initial overall scores for the drivers in the game.

Any ratings will never be totally accurate in converting a real person into a set of figures, so there are sure to be disagreements among drivers and fans. And it makes for an interesting comparison with the initial F1 22 launch day driver ratings. In both cases, Hamilton and Verstappen top the list, but the rest of the field are ordered slightly differently.
It’s interesting to compare the approach with the Football Manager series, which is probably the most popular and in-depth sports management simulation franchise. With almost 30 years of publishing, it’s not surprising that their player stats are incredibly detailed and cover thousands of individuals around the world. If the F1 Manager series continues, it’ll be interesting to see how something similar could develop, as there’s more of a structured progession in motorsport.
But both games demonstrate that the backroom staff are a massive part of becoming successful, and given that pit crews can win or lose a race for an F1 team, they have an even bigger direct impact on racing.
F1 Manager 2022 will be released on August 30th, 2022 with an early access launch on August 25th for digital pre-order customers.
