Fancy owning a supercar with a unique history in racing games? You can now bid on the Forza Motorsport 6 2017 Ford GT, as it’s been entered into a charity auction benefitting gaming charity SpecialEffect.
The Ford GT was the cover star of Forza Motorsport 6, and since then has been largely on display in the lobby of developers Turn 10 in Redmond, Washington. It’s been donated by Alan Hartman, who recently retired from his role as head of Xbox Games Studios after 30 years at Microsoft, with previous roles including founding Turn 10 Studios and being the Studio Head for Forza, and the Corporate Vice President of Forza and Fable.

Even without the Forza Motorsport links, the GT is a rare car. Not only is it one of just 138 made for that model year, it’s also one of just 27 ’66 Heritage Edition models which were produced to commemorate the GT40 MkII driven by Bruce McLaren and Chris Amon at Le Mans in 1966.
With just 2,500 miles on the clock, it’s got a twin-turbocharged 3.5 litre EcoBoost V6 rated at 647hp, which is enough for 216mph and 0-60mph in under three seconds. As a special edition, it got black paint with the #2 graphics and silver stripes, and features a unique serialised ID plate, exposed matte carbon fibre trim, a leather wrapped steering wheel and more interior changes, along with 20-inch one-piece forged aluminium wheels in gold satin clearcoat.
There’s no reserve on the auction, but you’ll probably need fairly deep pockets. A previous auction for a similar model without the unique Forza link reached $1,050,000, and the Forza Motorsport 6 Ford GT40 is already at $850,000.
And the money will be going to a good cause, UK-based gaming charity SpecialEffect, which is dedicated to improving the lives of people with disabilities through assistive technology. Alan Hartman is a longstanding honorary Vice President of the charity, having become aware of them through their work with Forza Horizon developers Playground Games.
“We are incredibly grateful to Alan for this remarkable opportunity,” said Dr Mick Donegan, MBE, the Founder and CEO of SpecialEffect. “I was fortunate enough to have had the pleasure of sitting in the car when I last met Alan on a visit to Turn 10, but this auction is not just about a stunning supercar—it’s about making a tangible difference in the lives of people with physical challenges right across the world through the innovative use of technology. The core of our work is to optimise inclusion, enjoyment and quality of life by helping people control video games to the best of their abilities for as long as they need us.”
“I’ve seen first-hand the incredible work that SpecialEffect does, and I’m honoured to be able to contribute in this way,” said Alan. “They not only bring joy to so many, but they provide a north star for the entire gaming industry as we strive to create a level playing field for every gamer. It is a privilege to support them and I hope this auction encourages others to get involved and help support this amazing charity.”
The auction is being run by Bring A Trailer, and runs from now until May 22nd, 2025. And you can find out more about SpecialEffect and the amazing work they do through their website.
