Porsche 911 GT3R 992 Confirmed For Assetto Corsa Competizione

March 24, 2023 By Dan Thornton Leave a Comment

As expected for release on April 19th, 2023 alongside the Ferrari 296 GT3 and the Lamborghini Huracan GT3 EVO2, we’ve now seen the Porsche 911 GT3R 992 confirmed for Assetto Corsa Competizione.

The trio are debuting in the real world GT Challenge series and other championships this season. So it makes sense that Kunos Simulazioni needed to add them for the eSports series which run alongside. And in the case of the Esports GT Pro Series, actually contribute to the real championship results.

The German company obviously has a long and storied history in sports car racing, with the previous 911 GT3 R 991.2 introduced in 2019, and winning in pretty much every series and event that it was eligible for. So the new 992 has a fair bit to live up to.

To help reach the same levels of success, power has seen a slight increase (depending on balance of performance regulations), up to 565hp from the 543hp of the previous model, but still using a four litre six-cylinder boxer engine, with a six-speed sequential gearbox. And the power and torque curves have been optimised across the rev range, meaning it should be easier to use that power.

Other notable changes include the fact that the engine has been titled forward to allow more space for the underbody diffuser, and the lightweight alumnium-steel composite design and carbon fibre bodywork mean a total weight around 1250kg. Along with improvements to aerodynamics, you also get improved suspension and a slightly longer wheelbase, AP alluminium monobloc racing callipers and brake discs, and the new Porsche LED headlights which aim to work like a reverse magnifiying glass to light up a larger area of the track ahead.

The three new GT3 cars will be available via Steam from April 19th, 2023, presumably as a new DLC pack similar to the Challengers Pack for the 2022 season.

Assetto Corsa Competizione is available as a digital download for the PC via Steam, the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S via the Microsoft Store, or the PS4 and PS5 via the PlayStation Store. And also as a physical edition from Game or Amazon.
