In an effort to make their premium sim racing products more accessible to those with smaller budgets, both Simucube and Ascher Racing begin selling refurbished products from their ranges.
It makes sense, given the strong secondhand market for quality sim racing equipment. And it’s common in other automotive industries, with most car and motorcycle manufacturers running used sales schemes for years. The benefit is that you can save a bit of cash, but still trust that the gear has been tested and certified by each company, and get the security of a two-year warranty in each case.
For Finnish company Simucube, you need to located the ‘Simucube Pre-Owned’ section, which includes both the same warranty and 30-day return policy that you’d get buying brand new kit. The only difference is that the selection has been used or might have visual defects such as scratches, for a significant saving. For example, a new Simucube 2 Pro wheelbase costs €1504.75 new, or €947.99 to €1053.32 from the current pre-owned selection. An ActivePedal Ultimate will cost you €2508.75 new, or €1580.51 to €1756.12, with the choice of Quality 1 (minor visual defects), or Quality 2 (larger visual defects).
Meanwhile for Ascher Racing, you’ll need to search for the Refurbished section to see the selection of wheels currently available. And the two levels used for the varying condition of the products available are Excellent or Good, with a new Ascher Racing McLaren Artura Pro costing from €1,129.00, or a refurbished example in Excellent condition from €993.65.
Given that Ascher Racing wheels are most compatible with Simucube kit allowing for wireless connectivity, both firms have obviously chatted about the fact that a pre-owned or refurbished sales channel makes sense. At the moment, the used selection is only available through their main European websites, rather than any UK alternative, so for Simucube, you’ll need to go here, and for Ascher Racing, here.
And as both Simucube and Ascher Racing begin selling refurbished products, it might spur other manufacturers to consider offering used equipment.
