With co-op survival driving game Arctic Drive revealed by developers Pebble Games and PlayTogether Studio, you’ll soon be able to team up with three friends to try and keep your pick-up truck running across a procedurally-generated frozen wasteland.
Like a cross between the ultimate road trip and a hellishly cold punishment (depending on your friends), you’ll just have your truck and trailer, with whatever fits inside. So you’ll need to drive, haul and scavenge your way to repair and upgrade your vehicle. And as the same time, take care of your own hunger, thirst and warmth.

Along with the new routes each run-through, the fact it promises a physics-driven experience should make it interesting as an alternative to getting stranded in real life. Or as a useful potential way to test your friends and family if you’re thinking about going on an adventure together.
As you might expect, there’s dynamic weather and a full day and night cycle to deal with, including incoming blizzards and whiteouts. And there’s cross play between Windows, Linux and macOS platforms, with plans for console versions in the future.
It sounds like it could be fun, especially with the right group playing together. One of the big challenges is that the frozen wasteland might get a little repetitive over time, especially in single player. So it’ll be interesting to see how the solo and multiplayer experience compares, and what the developers can do to keep it engaging if you’re alone in the frozen wilderness.
But there seems to be a growing interest in survival driving games, particularly following the release of Pacific Drive. And it certainly makes a change from sim racing your way around the same circuits every day.
Arctic Drive is listed on Steam now to wishlist.
