Funselektor and Strelka Games have announced there will be an Over the Hill closed playtest to celebrate 1 million Steam wishlists so far. A release date hasn’t been confirmed beyond some time in 2026, but you can register until April 16th for the chance to try out the new game celebrating a golden age of offroading between April 24th-26th on Steam.
Originally scheduled to arrive in late 2025 for PC and consoles, a recent livestream with Funselektor founder Dune Casu and Strelka Games CEO Pietro De Grandi revealed the aim is for a release in the second part of 2026, and a confirmed date announced by the end of April. The extra time is being used to respond to feedback from previous playtests and to add more content.

Along with the news of the playtest, a new trailer has also been released showing the ‘algeria’ region in the game, including ancient ruins and fallen meteorites amongs the sand.
Over the hill is all about exploration, navigation and discovery as you take on various challenges and objectives either alone or with up to three friends helping you drive, adapt and relax around a campfire at the end of each day.
Along with the day and night cycle, there’s also dynamic weather, realistic terrain deformation, customising your classic off-roader and capturing the scenery in photo mode. And rather than the latest modern all-conquering vehicles, you’ll get a selection of icons from the 1960s to the 1980s in the typically adorable style you’ll recognise if you played Funselektors previous Art of Rally.

One of the fun parts of Art of Rally was exploring the world to find all of the collectibles, so putting this element into an off-road title with multiplayer makes sense. And in a potentially less stressful experience than trying to co-ordinate friends and family in a title like SnowRunner.
You can register your interest in the Closed Playtest for the PC version of Over The Hill via Steam using this Google form before midnight GMT on April 16, 2026.
If you want to wishlist Over The Hill yourself, then you can find it for the PC on Steam, the PS5 on the PlayStation store, the Xbox Series X|S on the Microsoft Store, and a listing for the Nintendo Switch 2 will be appearing on the eShop soon.
