Having revealed a number of cars on a fairly regular schedule in recent weeks, Straight4 Studios have started to address the track roster for their sim racing title, with Kyalami confirmed for Project Motor Racing.
As the car list has filled out, the handful of circuits known so far has started to look a little short. So the announcement of the South African venue is a welcome addition, with the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit having hosted the 9 Hours endurance event, F1, motorcycle Grand Prix and World Superbikes, along with various other series.

Officially opened in 1961, the original clockwise layout underwent significant changes in 1989. The current track, on a ridge 2000 metres above sea level, features 16 turns around the 2.814 mile (4.529km) length, running anticlockwise and relocating the original pits and startline. The current lap record is held by Jonathan Thomas driving a Nova Proto NP02 during the 2024 Kyalami 9 Hours.

It’s a fun and challenging track to drive with plenty of elevation changes and technical corners, particularly from the second turn Crowthorne, to turn five, Barbeque, and the descent down from Leeukop, the tenth turn. I’ve driven it in other sims and racing games, most notably in Forza Motorsport, Assetto Corsa Competizione (in DLC), and Automobilista 2, which also has the 1976 layout, but the combination of the circuit with the current selection of classic sportscars revealed for Project Motor Racing is an enticing combination.
It’ll be interesting to see how the track roster evolves for Project Motor Racing. As much as I love driving and racing at less well-known venues, it’s obvious that the majority of sim racers tend to focus on the most famous racing circuits when they’re looking at sims or just attending individual races.
Keep up with the latest Project Motor Racing news and updates here, along with the Project Motor Racing car list and track list so far.
