Try out a new simcade multiplayer RC racing game as the Recharge Playtest starts before a Steam Early Access Launch on July 28th, 2025.
Developed by Room Games, and not to be confused with ReCharge RC: High Voltage, which is also due to launch in Early Access on July 18th from Hondune Games, this particular radio controlled car title offers solo racing or multiplayer for up to 12 people, and cross-platform support planned for the full release, with the promise of realistic graphics and physics.
You can use game or authentic RC controllers, with a range of tracks and car customisation, which impact both looks and performance. Changes include the motor, ESC (Electronic Speed Controller) and the chassis, along with swapping paint, stickers and bodies. circuits include some inspired by real tracks, but you also get locations including beaches, amusement parks and skateparks.

The Early Access period is estimated to last 6-12 months with more tracks and customisation, physics improvements and new gameplay modes including time trials to justify an increased price for the full release.
Meanwhile during the playtest there’s access to 7 maps with 3 different track versions, limited customisation options which won’t impact gameplay, and there’s no support for RC controllers or wheels yet.
I’m intrigued to try both Recharge and Recharge RC: High Voltage to see if either game can capture the fun and excitement of RC racing. I still own my childhood Kyosho Optima Mid Turbo and have been meaning to get it going again after a friend mentioned they’re attenting a local RC club, so this could be the encouragement I need.
