Have you ever played the likes of MudRunner and SnowRunner and wished you could be fighting off enemies during a task? Your wish could arrive soon, as co-op delivery driving game Cargo is now listed on Steam.

You start in a small garage and complete delivery missions, unlock trading and expand your settlement over time. And you’ll need to choose whether you want to try and avoid raiders or fight them to avoid losing any of your load.
The most interesting thing about Cargo is that you’ll be able to play solo, or in a co-operative convoy of up to four players. And your team can either be split between vehicles, take on different roles within your truck (driver, defense, scout and utility), or share seats on mounted turrets. Which sounds like fun, and also counters one of the issues with a lot of car combat games, where you either rely completely on auto-aiming, or hitting over vehicles can be really tricky at times.

I’ve quite enjoyed post-apocalyptic car combat games in the past, including the likes of Crossout and Rage, and there was the 2015 adaptation of Mad Max. So it’s not unique, but it’s not a genre that’s overpopulated. And it feels like it takes more inspiration from the likes of MudRunner and SnowRunner than older games, which could make it very interesting.

That reveals itself with the physics-driven handling model, and a meaningful impact to the set-up, along with a variety of terrains and biomes to encounter. If the tyres, traction, differentials etc all make the driving role more engaging than just rolling round as a gun platform for the person shooting, then that will make it much more enjoyable as a co-op game.
And along with upgrading your base, obviously there are ways to improve your vehicles by improving the armour, weaponry and parts. You’re also able to find derelict wrecks and rebuild them piece by piece.
Cargo is being developed and published by Take It Easy and is now available to wishlist on Steam for the PC, with no set price or release date announced at the moment.
