Project CARS: An Eye for Detail Preview

February 26, 2015 By Andy ORD Leave a Comment

Last updated on August 16th, 2015 at 03:59 pm

In preparation for recording new Project CARS footage last night, we had a short session at the wheel of Slightly Mad Studios’ soon-to-be released sim. Even the time running a couple of hot laps in one of this week’s Community challenge events demonstrated some nice touches. After watching the footage from what began as a set-up check, we thought it’d be cool to include a few clips from this test run on OnlineRaceDriver.

Our 1-minute video features the Formula B car at Hockenheim.

Those details…

The video consists of a series of external shots that show the differing flow of exhaust vapours and tyre smoke. Oh, and there are some combined smoke and shadow effects during a burnout that had to be done! The reactions of the suspension and the car body to the dips and rises of the kerbs and nearby areas can also be seen in real-time. Towards the end, with the 1-minute mark approaching, there’s a second chance to see the car behaviour during a slow-motion section.

There’ll be more car and race footage from Project CARS soon. As the detail shone even at a race track in clear weather conditions, our Hockenheimring test was worth adding ahead of widening ORD coverage to other courses and car classes. We haven’t so much as started looking at game modes, weather or the full 24-hour lighting cycle on the site yet, never mind the car list or racing! In fact, the engines are only just getting warmed up – but it’s all on the way!

Project CARS will be available for the PC, PS4 and Xbox One on April 2nd.

Early orders…

Here’s a range of updated pre-order prices, each correct at the time of this post. Note that although we have included the Wii U version as listed on the sites, a release date in 2015 has yet to be confirmed.

Anyone booking or buying ahead of the April release day will also receive the Modified Car Pack that features the Ariel Atom 3 Mugen, a Pagani Zonda Cinque Roadster and Slightly Mad’s custom Ruf CTR3 SMS-R.

We described the pre-order car pack and Limited Edition bundle last year on this page.
