This great in-depth iRacing Nurburgring progress video takes a look at the circuit laytouts (Grand Prix, Nordschliefe and Combined), and how they have come together. Besides showing how good the circuit currently looks, and the impressive level of detail being applied to the digital recreation (Including a famous out-of-order sign on a petrol pump), it also features feedback from racer Robb Holland, the Dennis Steffens from the Nurburgring management team, and ‘Ring taxi driver Dale Lomas.
Having shared an office with Dale earlier in our career, we’re able to filter our his naturally over-enthusiastic resting state to vouch for the fact he seems pretty impressed with the iRacing Nurburgring simulation. And as a racer as well as a ‘Ring taxi driver, he’s a pretty experienced expert in how a car feeds around a lap of the legendary German route.
What’s also interesting is that in addition to simulating the racing experience, they’ve also chosen to try and replicate the process of taking your own car and buying a regular public access ticket. Which is not only fun, but potentially incredibly useful for those intending to visit in real life in the future.
So there’s the Nurgurgring Grand Prix Circuit (5.18km), the Nurburgring Nordschliefe (20.81km/12.93 miles) and the combined 25.95km/16.12 mile layout. The new Nurburgring additions are scheduled to become available in December 2015, and it’s definitely making us ramp up our efforts for a new PC and driving rig before then…
