Tokyo Xtreme Racer Full Release Pushed To September 2025

May 16, 2025 By Dan Thornton Leave a Comment

After appearing on Steam Early Access in January, we’ve now seen the Tokyo Xtreme Racer full release pushed to September 2025. The original aim was for version 1.0 to arrive around May or June, four months after the Early Access launch.

The new date of late September was apparently down to the ‘tremendous amount of feedback’ received, to conclude discussions with licensing partners, and to spend more time developing and fine tuning the game. With that in mind, the producer letter announcing the change in timetable included some additional features, with some arriving as updates during the extended Early Access period.

Features planned for tuning:

  • AI behaviour
  • Polishing UI
  • Re-designing of park and skill tree
  • Game balancing
  • Tuning of rival cars
  • Revival of past rivals

Planned additional features

  • Steam achievements
  • Steam Record rankings
  • Replay functionality
  • Conversion functionality
  • Changing water and oil temprature functionality
  • Hard difficulty mode

Updates have been released throughout the Early Access period so far, including the arrival of photo mode, and further tweaks. Genki also held a Reddit AMA which included details such as Version 1.0 including around 200 additional rivals, a way for players to drive non-drivable traffic cars, more customisation parts, and that console versions remain to be decided upon.

A couple of features that have been ruled out so far include a cockpit view and an online multiplayer battle mode.

It’s always a little frustrating to see release dates pushed back, but considering a new Tokyo Xtreme Racer has been 18 years in the making, adding a few extra months for the full release isn’t the end of the world. Especially as you can play the current Early Access version in the meantime.
