Almost 10 years after first person car-fixing survival game My Summer Car was released, the sequel My Winter Car launches on Steam Early Access with more emphasis on racing, whether you want to take part or watch as a spectator.
My Summer Car was originally released in October, 2016 and has built up a cult following due to the challenge of building and maintaining your project vehicle in 1990s Finland. Not only do you have to be really careful in assembling hundreds of car parts in the right way, but there’s a constant risk of permadeath if you’re not getting enough sausages, beer and sleep.
Now My Winter Car arrives as ‘the ultimate sequel’. It’s recommended for people who have already mastered the original and are familiar with how the game works, rather than new players.
It was originally confirmed to be in development back in 2020, and along with now being able to urinate in the snow, and having to make sure your car heater is keeping you from freezing, there’s more emphasis on the racing side of things, with the return of circuit, drag and rally racing. But you can also watch the action as a spectator if you prefer not to risk your car.

Some of the features mentioned by developers Amistech Games include almost 200 car parts, detailed driving with realistic law enforcement, and a simulation of your body temperature as you try to enjoy mid-winter Finnish weather and keep yourself and your car going through the cold and dark conditions.
As an Early Access game, the gameplay and graphics are pretty much set for the full release, but plans for development include adding more potential endings, audiovisual assets and polish, and then additional features ideas from both the developers and the community.
If you’re new to the series, start with My Summer Car, which is available on Steam for the PC at £10.99, and then move to the harder challenge of My Winter Car for £12.79. Of you can save by purchasing the bundle of both games, which costs £15.93 if you’re starting out from scratch and determined to master them both.
