Xbox Series X|S owners can try out the sim racing title for nothing, with Project Motor Racing free on Game Pass for a limited time. It’s available for the weekend until Sunday April 12, 2026.
Unfortunately this doesn’t carry over to Game Pass for the PC, but it was available to play for free on Steam for four days at the end of March, so it’s hard to complain too much. And given the relative lack of sim racing titles on consoles, it’s bigger news that Xbox owners can try out more serious racing and see if they might want to get into the genre. It’s available to anyone with an active Ultime, Premium or Essential subscription.

It’s a good time to give Project Motor Racing a try, whether or not you’ve dabbled with it in the past. The recent Update 2.0, released at the end of March, offered a fairly big overhaul of physics, handling and tyre models, a new user interface, improved AI and online collision detection, anti-cheat measures, and a visual performance upgrade for consoles to bring it closer to the PC version.
The first DLC pack was also released at the end of March, with the Japanese GT500 Pack brining cars from the national series and the Takimiya circuit. They join a roster which includes many of the usual suspects from a variety of sim racing titles, but also have more unusual classes including 1970s sports cars, N-GT cars like the Marcos Mantara, Mosler MT900R and TVR Tuscan T400R, or Group 5 monsters like the Ford Zakspeed Capri, Nissan 280ZX Turbo and BMW 320 Turbo.
Project Motor Racing is available for the PC via Steam, the Epic Games Store or the official website, the PlayStation 5 via the PlayStation Store, or the Xbox Series X|S via the Microsoft Store, or via Game and Amazon.
