Gran Turismo Sport Delisted From The PlayStation Store

The end is rapidly approach for the former flagship console racing game, with Gran Turismo Sport delisted from the PlayStation Store ahead of the online servers shutting down on January 31st, 2024.

After originally launching for the PlayStation 4 back in October 2017, the decision to wind down support for the game was announced in September 2023, with paid DLC being removed from sale at the start of December. You’re still able to download the game and additional content if you already own them, but no-one can purchase new copies online anymore.

When the online servers are shut down at 6am UTC on January 31st, online features, custom liveries, trophies requiring an online connection and the mileage store will all cease to function. But you’ll still be able to use offline parts of the game, despite the fact that Gran Turismo Sport previously required you to be online to do anything. So there may be a final update removing that requirement for local single player racing.

Having sold 12.977 million copies, it’s the second most successful title in the Gran Turismo series behind Gran Turismo 3: A-Spec. It was succeeded by Gran Turismo 7 in March 2022, but figures for the new game haven’t been released yet, although it’s part of the more than 90 million number for the series revealed in December 2022, and did top the sales charts at launch as you might expect.

Six years of availability is similar to the time allowed before Forza titles reach their ‘end of life’ status, and slightly longer than the five years achieved by Gran Turismo 6 (2013 until 2018). Along with removing the resources needed to support a title which has been replaced by newer games, it’s also attributed to the hundreds of licensing terms and agreements for cars, tracks, teams and music required for each game.

Obviously you’ll still be able to pick up secondhand physical copies of Gran Turismo Sport from retailers including Game and Amazon.

And you can keep up with the latest news on both Gran Turismo 7 and GT Sport. Or check out all the vehicles available in the GT Sport car list, and the Gran Turismo 7 car list. Along with the GT Sport track list, and the Gran Turismo 7 track list. You can buy Gran Turismo 7 for the PS4 and PS5 from the PlayStation Store.
