It’s been a while since any official new content arrived for the sim, but this week has seen Circuit Zolder released for rFactor 2.
Original developers Studio 397 have been focused on Le Mans Ultimate as part of Motorsport Games, and as a result, rFactor 2 has been quiet aside from a free Formula E update in March. But rather than going back to their other sim, this new track is actually the work of community members, led by Frederick Alonso. It’s been approved and published by Studio 397 through Steam, and costs £6.91.

There’s no public information on whether third party approved content includes a revenue split, but Frederick is a well-respected mod creator who has previously worked as a freelancer on track DLC projects for Reiza Studios, and for BMW Germany. According to his website, he worked with Belgian Lidar company Teccon to create a current version of Zolder which is then licensed through a Sales Manager at the circuit itself.
The result is a detailed and accurate representation of the Belgian circuit including the 4.011km (2.492 mile) Grand Prix circuit featuring 10 turns and plenty of crests and falls to navigate for a fast lap, particularly between the Kleine chicane and Terlamenbocht. Especially when you also need to tackle the kerbs and hard braking.
Circuit Zolder has hosted a wide range of motorsport over the years, including Formula One, WTCR, DTM, the NASCAR Euro Series, and the standalone 24 Hours of Zolder, although sadly it’s also known as the venue where Gilles Villeneuve was killed in an accident during qualifying for the 1982 Belgian Grand Prix.
The track does appear in other sims, including Assetto Corsa Competizione, iRacing and RaceRoom Racing Experience.
You can find Circuit Zolder in the rFactor 2 store on Steam. See the latest rFactor 2 updates and news, here. Or check out the full rFactor 2 car list, and the rFactor 2 track list.
