Go back in time with a free 1937 Tripoli Circuit update released for Assetto Corsa. The remastered release is a joint collaboration between Sergio Loro, who originally created the track back in 2004 for Grand Prix Legends, THL, and Historic Sim Studios.
Changes include replacing nearly all of the trackside buildings, and making both the circuit width and surface more historically accurate.

The Tripoli Circuit, named the Circuito di Mellaha, was built around a salt lake in Libya with an 8.165 mile length. And replacing a slow and unpopular street circuit, it largely featured gentle corners taken at top speed when it opened in 1933. The first event was part of a race-fixing scandal, and the final Tripoli Grand Prix took place in 1940 when Libya became involved in World War Two.
Over eight years, a pair of drivers claimed three wins each with Achille Varzi (Alfa Romeo and Auto Union), and Hermann Lang (Mercedes0Benz). The other winners were Rudolf Caracciola (Mercedes-Benz) and Giuseppe Farina (Alfa Romeo).

You can find the track for free via the Historic Sim Studios listing on Sim Vendor. And there are also suitable cars available for free including a 1934 Alfa Romeo P3 and a 1934 Maserati 8CM Grand Prix. But there are lots of other pre-war racing machines from HSS and other mod-builders which would be interesting to try out around the track.
While I’m not quite old enough to remember pre-war motorsports, it was a fascinating time. And being able to drive the cars and tracks of the era is something unique to sim racing, going beyond simple reading about the exploits of that era.
