Game-killing GT5 bug to be fixed on February 18, 2011

February 13, 2011 By Dan Thornton Leave a Comment

An extremely serious bug has been discovered in Gran Turismo 5 which means that your save file will become unusable once it becomes a certain size – luckily it appears that the bug will be fixed in the next GT5 update, which will be released on February 18th, 2011.

The bug occurs when your save file reaches 4165KB in size. When that happens, a number of players have reported that the save file can no longer be used, with the following message appearing:

“Insufficient free space on hard disk drive (HDD). At least 32MB required. Please exit the game and free up some space. 0×00000015 [217]“

At the moment, there is no way around the problem, and no solution. Once it happens, your save is toast, so it’s best to back it up on an external drive now, and to avoid browsing the GT5 ‘museum cards’ as these seem to lead to the biggest increases in save file size. Although you receive them automatically, it’s actually viewing them which leads to the jump of hundreds of KB in file size.

So either be very, very careful, or just wait until February 18th before progressing in Gran Turismo 5. And backing up your save file is never a bad idea!
