Do we need a safety car?

July 29, 2011 By TomBowker 2 Comments

Since the brilliant F1 2010 was released, Codemasters have also been inundated with fans’ requests for the inclusion of a safety car in the sequel. Indeed, if 1994’s Indycar Racing 2 managed to include one running on MS Dos, surely the inclusion on one of today’s superconsoles or superfast PC’s is long overdue. However the inclusion of the safety car is not quite as cut and dry … [Read more...]

F1 2011 preview

July 28, 2011 By TomBowker 1 Comment

After waiting so long for a good F1 game, it seems like the past year has flow by pretty quickly – mainly because I’ve spent most of it playing F1 2010. But as Codemasters’ BAFTA-winning bestseller approaches its first birthday, some fledgling official details have been revealed about its younger brother: the appropriately-titled F1 2011. And unlike the Schumacher brothers, … [Read more...]

Platinum Range Gran Turismo 5 out in October?

July 18, 2011 By Dan Thornton Leave a Comment

Could Gran Turismo 5 be joining the Playstation 3 'Platinum Range' in less than a year? That's the suggestion offered by a new product listing on the Amazon France website. Although heading for a budget price in the Platinum Range less than 12 months after finally being released might come as a bit of a surprise to Gran Turismo fans, there is some logic in the idea, even if … [Read more...]

Need for Speed Shift 2 Unleashed Review

Shift 2 Unleashed, or the game formerly known as Need for Speed Shift 2: Unleashed, is an interesting game as much for the publicity campaign that preceded its launch as for the game itself. Polyphony Digital employees on the move

July 11, 2011 By Dan Thornton 2 Comments

Polyphony Digital is relocating around 50 of its 150 person workforce away from the current offices in Tokyo to a new set-up in Fukuoka, Japan, which is 500 miles away on the Western end of Japan. The reason given for the move is the ongoing effect of the March 11 earthquake, and although there is still seismic activity in the new area, it's generally much less than in the … [Read more...]

Gran Turismo 5 just got safer with the HANS Device

June 30, 2011 By Dan Thornton Leave a Comment

Gran Turismo 5 drivers will now get the HANS Device for safety

Gran Turismo 5 is a pretty accurate racing simulator, and we can certainly understand the official licence for the Thrustmaster T 500 RS as a realistic wheel and pedal set-up. But now GT5 has teamed up with the HANS Device, the head and neck safety system racers use. The restraint is apparently coming in-game, rather than being shipped to wear while you're sat on your sofa. So … [Read more...]

Codemasters Dirt 3 review – 4/5

June 16, 2011 By TomBowker Leave a Comment

Dirt 3 review

As fans of my work will know (hello mum), I was a big fan of the original Dirt, but less so of it's sequel. So here's the difficult third album - it has to keep the original 'rally' fans happy and still appeal to the slick, polished Americanised variety showcase that was Dirt 2. And I’m pleased to say it generally straddles the delicate balance between the two quite … [Read more...]
